About Eric Alston
Eric Alston is principal of Unity Elementary School in Meriwether County, Georgia, where he is in his fourth year in the role and a member of the Extraordinary Educator’s Leadership Collaborative. A dedicated educator with 15 years of experience, Eric has served in a variety of instructional and leadership roles, including middle school math teacher, special education teacher, PBIS coach, track coach, lead special education teacher, testing coordinator, and assistant principal. A native of Columbus, Georgia, Eric holds a B.A. in political science and an M.Ed. in teacher leadership from Columbus State University, as well as an Ed.S. in educational leadership from Valdosta State University. Throughout his career, Eric has remained committed to advancing student achievement through the strategic use of data and a culture of continuous improvement. He is deeply motivated by the belief that education is the key to breaking the cycle of generational poverty—something he has experienced firsthand. His passion for education is rooted in a desire to provide all students, regardless of background, with the opportunities they need to succeed. Outside of school, he enjoys fishing on his jon boat, playing tennis, and rooting (sometimes painfully) for the Atlanta Falcons—still holding out hope for that Super Bowl win!
